two girls in Ecuador« on: November 15 2009 08:11:00 »
We are 2 girls heading to Ecuador mid December and staying until mid January mainly for surfing, but we would like to do some hiking probably as well. We ve surfed before, but we are still beginners and looking for small waves (anything above overhead is too big). We fly into Quito and from there we travel to the coast. We can' t bring surfboards with us, because it s too expensive. I have a lot of questions and any advice/commet is much appreciated.
-do anyone has experiences with renting a car? prices, quality, driving in Ecuador,...?
- is it necessary to book accomodation? looking for something cheap, but clean. we ll be changing accomadation a lot

i had to divided my massage (too long sorry)
- is there a surfshop in Quito? Or is it possible to buy a used board any other places than Montanita? I have minimal, would be great, if i can get something similar, but i know it can be hard
- where to find information about public transportation? How to get f. ex. from Quito to Montanita? How to get from hotels/hostels to the spots?
- is somewhere a good surfmap?

I was in Ecuador one month ago for three months. Traveled along the coast four times searching for waves and will be returning early December. You can email me your questions if you like and I'll try to answer them all. It's hard to provide the right answer sometimes through this site as it only lets you post a small amount of info.

hola... :) hi...
i´ll go ecuador in the same time, i think that you should, take a plane to Guayaquil, not Quito, Quito is pretty far from the coast, intead guayaquil is about 200km or 2 hours from montañitas, there are many others places to surf along the pacific coast in ecuador...
the surf boards are realy more expensive that in my country, (i am from argentina) so i will take them whit me,... whit LAN chile, you don´t have to pay for take your surfboards it´s incluided whit the plane ticket...so i recomend it....
we are going to rent a car once we arrived to guayaquil, it cost us about 500 us dolars...
sory for my inglish, you can chat whit me is you whant

thank you for your comments. We are flying from Europe, taking surfboards would be like 300 us for one! it s crazy, I also checked lan airlines and flights to Guayaquil, but ticket was very expensive from Europe. It s ok, i think Quito is very nice and it would be worth to see it.
You pay 500 us for a car for how long? and do you know the name of the rental company?

Hi. I'm traveling down to Ecuador on January 2nd for part of a world tour and will be there for about a week. I love to surf (its a BIG part of my tour) and would love to hear if you two find any good spots/deals along the coast. I am not bringing a board (cost) and due to the amount I'm traveling am only looking to rent by the day, so if you find anything you think would be worth passing on let me know :)!!! Thanks!

Hi im curious how you trip is going and whether you found a car. I am going to be down there for about 3 months starting at the end of january and am curious if anyone know where I might buy or rent a cheap car. Also whether a car is necissary to get to most breaks, what about in chile or peru. Im not sure how many places I should plan on going to, my tenative plan is to spend some time in panama, then catch a boat to equador then find a car and head down the coast. Any suggestions?

Anyone else heading tehre in Feb??? Im very close to putting something together. My only concern is I see the annual rainfall high at that time?
If anyone has any good info on recently being there or going...please feel free to shoot me an email. firstname.lastname@example.org
Also if anyone can comment on places to stay, breaks...and also this constant question of rent a car??
Lastly, what boards did anyone find there to buy or rent?
