Hello Matt,
I am a local guide who have been surfing El Salvador for 25 years. I have transport (in case you need it) and know all the surf spots in the country, including some breaks rarely visited by surfers. I would be happy to guide you while you are here in El Salvador.
Hope to see you soon,
Jose Roberto

RE: Can anyone recommend an independant surf guide in the Libert

Hello
Thanks for the reply. I will be arriving in El Salvador early morning on March 29th and leaving early April 2nd. I need a surf guide for the 29th, 30th, 31st, and 1st in and around La Libertad, Sunzal, that whole area. I need to rent a board, and my skill level is lower intermediate. I always prefer lefts, but I know I will be in a country of right breaks. Anyways please let me know what your rates are?
Thanks
Matt

I didn't use a guide while I was there but I did get airport transport from a guy I met on this site, Francisco MIliani.  His email is chelepuerto@yahoo.com.  He knows the area, knows lots of people, speaks perfect english and is a super cool guy.

Louis:

I am thinking of a vacation to El Sal. in August 2008 to LEARN how to surf.  Is this a good idea, or is this NOT the place to learn (too difficult, dangerous, etc)?

Hi Sue if you want to learn to surf I would recomend you to go between December - March 'cause these are the smallest/safer months. The country is as dangerous as any other latin american country. I would also recomend you to use Francisco Miliani as a surf guide, he knows the area pretty much as well as the locals.
