Surfing in England/Torquay region

Hi everyone on here, I'll be in the UK on business from oct 27th-nov1st. Wanted to see what I need to try and surf over there? I'm assuming a full suit and booties but do I need gloves? Also, where are the best spots? I know on the other side of the headland gets more swell but are there any surfers from the torquay region that can shed some light on the local spots there? looks like with this hurricane there could be some good surf.

cheers
chad
