Taveuni surf breaks« on: March 03 2006 00:03:00 »
I have only been surfing for 2 1/2 years, I hear that there is surf on Taveuni. Will surf be likely in March? I searched for the purple haze location, but only found that it is secret. My question is, will I want to bring my board down there because there will be surf on Taveuni that I can ride, and will I probably find sweet little breaks, or, should I just rent a board when I get there. Maybe the rental place can take me to some 'secret spots'.... Thank you !

if you dont take your own board be prepared to probly spend a lot and get a realy dinged up board. all the breaks are reef so if the board has been surfed on everyday for the last 4years its going to be in a band way. as for the smaller waves thats up to the ocean, it could be cranking the whole time your there and you can pretty much find a wave anyday its just looking for them thats tricky. as for the 'secret spots' everyone asks where they are so if they told you it wouldnt be a secret hey. haha. grab a map and go surching thats half the fun. goodluck. be wise and dont get ripped off heaps of people will charge stax of $ for a boat trip when a fish'o could drop you there for free.....thats my tips.

Did you end up surfing there? We're going in May, husband wants to go to Kadavu, i want taveuni, may do both, but it's a lot of $$ to go between islands, so would love to hit just Taveuni if that will satisfy his surf bug.

Hey, I'm headed to Taveuni this March, got a few good tips from these posts. I'll be staying in Waiyevo. Does anyone have tips on good break locations? Is there any surf on the west side of the island at the Somosomo strait?
