hey mate i will be there to in july 29th to 5th august.i was there last year and you can hire a boat and driver from the backpackers for 150 fijian and have it the whole day. you can also get a boat from the island itself for 200 fijian they can take your family to plantation island for the day and i think it includes meals and drinks. they told me cloudbreak is about 45mins in a boat.there is also a left off sunset beach on the island

Am staying at Mana in June 2012 and was after some more info (details & costs) on surfing from Mana and at the island itself. Also can you hire boats from there and are they OK?

look out for other surfers on the island either at resort or backpackers and team up to reduce costs, try 'Kinny" for boat to the surf spots he lives just past second backpackers and works in the resort and has good boat/motor.
There are a few spots local to Mana but they were not on when I was there, you can paddle out from sunset beach to a left or bird rock or mana pass are closer than cloudbreak etc but still need a boat and not sure what costs would be. While there I went with 5 others to cloudbreak etc and we Paid F$50.00 each and another time with only 3 in the boat, total for the boat was F$200.00, although its a bit of a longer boat ride than from Plantation if you get the waves like we got at Restaurants its definetly worth it.
