Yes i have been there a couple of times and i only got waves once.its a pretty place but not somewhere i would recommend as a surf trip..lots of bad winds and lots and lots of rain, even in the dry season.great diving and snorkeling tho.the wind has to be north east and the swell needs to be big to get up that far nth..you also need a boat to get out to the reef.the wave can get really good but its pretty soft and very fickle.i know guys that have spent a month there in prime season and ave only surfed sloppy crap.....hope that helps

Hi I have surfed maqai for 4 years and its a sick waves , yes the wind is shit need north or north east, but there are still other spots to surf that are close by, maqai right you can kayak or boat , no recommended to paddle incase shit goes wrong, best season is I find feb to may, I have surfed it tops 10 ft and pumping, reef very for giving, soft corral compared to restraunts and cloud break, but super eazy and get some great barrels ,
