august is definitely the worst month for good surf in france and spain. Generelly it will be better in france than in spain and only big swells will cause some surfable waves in spain. Crowds will also be a problem, especially in the region of Biarritz and Hossegor. (summer madness) Wake up early or  look forward to some evening sessions and stay a little bit up north of Biarritz and Hossegor to avoid crowds and prepare yourself for some flat days.

Hi, I'm italian but I go every year to Biarritz for some days. The best surf in europe is in south-west france (basque coast and landes) northern spain (basque country, especially mundaka) and portugal (west coast). august it's not the best period to surf in france and spain, but however you can good waves in the biarritz area and in Hossegor (100 km north of biarritz). Consider that the spot are very crowded in this period. By.

P.S. An american girl and a canadian one? I'm tempted to say to you that Italy has the best surf in Europe. ;)

yes! where in spain and morocco? my friend and i have 6 weeks and we're free to go anywhere. nothing to crazy, not overhead and small crowds would be great. i know too it's summer but hey, it's the only time we could get over there.
