Bordeaux area

hi, i am travelling to bordeaux in august for a 6 week surfing trip. I am travelling with a partner and aim to use public transport to make my way down and then back up the coast. im bringing a board and backpack on the plain. Could anyone help me with ideas for the best, easiest and cheapest ways to travel down the coast. Also im taking a tent but is it possiable to camp near the beach for free, or just sleep on the beach?also anyone know of any cheap hostels in bordeaux for a few nights? and also what is the best way to get from bordeaux to lacanuua??
thankyou for your time
dale
