Surfing jaunts from Singapore« on: December 10 2006 04:12:00 »
Howdy, I'm going to be in Sinapore and would like to get some surfing in. I was wondering what the closest good surfing spots are (thailand, indonesia, etc). If anyone has any pointers or know where i might look i would greatly appreciate it. I'm not very good but i love getting in the water! Thanks!

Closest place to S'pore is Desaru in Johor. next up the coast is Cherating, Pahang which has a nice long left, or 30 mins further up from there at 'the quarry' (Teluk Kalong) and Kijal Beach all up in Malaysia but you really have to check the weather reports for waves, usually best in Nov, Dec, Jan depending on the typhoons from the east.
other options are Nias or Padang, in Sumatra, or even Bali on a cheap flight (100USD and 2 hour flight time can't be beat)
