soul-surfing

OK. I'm an old guy (45). I surfed for about 1 year (1980) when I was a teenage college student in San Luis Obispo, CA. I've been wanting to get back on a board ever since. I'm at a crossroads in my life where I'm looking to relocate (from Seattle) to someplace warm with waves. I don't care where it is--Cali, Hawaii, Florida, Australia, some exotic locale in some hidden corner of the world--I don't care. I just want to be able to paddle out in the morning without ANY hassle from locals/knuckleheads protecting "their" waves. Surfing truly was an almost spiritual experience for me, even as a teen, and that's what I want to recapture. (We used to call it soul-surfing.) Is there such a place on earth in 2007? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi there,
you could try paddleboarding,
prone, stand up whatever,
its more free and out there.

I'm an old guy too.  But I surf whenever I can here in Santa Cruz Ca. Not to far from you.  There are days when the crowds are small here, you just have to be able to time it right and know the spots to surf.  I've been at it for 43 years now and have so much fun still.  I wrote the post on going around the world next year.  If you want to surf and you're down here I'll take ya but you have to be able to surf fast and sometimes big waves. My son says theres a left real near you that's a great spot and the LOCALS are the worst he has ever delt with.., They threatend his girl friend cause she was takin pics on the beach and they told my son not to paddle out.  He did and scored the kind anyways.

Looking for surf spots in ?
