surf allergies

« on: October 23 2007 15:10:00 »

For the last couple of years I've become a surfer allergic to the ocean.  Central California surfer wonders if anyone else has similar symptoms.  8-12 hours after a session I get both nostrils completely closed.  Stuffed head.  It always clears up about 6 hrs after waking up the next day.  Any suggestions?  HELP!!!!!

I had allergic reactions to the cold waters in California.  I almost always got hives after surfing.  A wetsuit helped, the hives were on exposed skin ony.  Bummer, but I never got them surfing in Hawaii, that's why I blame the cold waters.  This doesn't really answer your problem about stuffed up nose, but maybe you are reacting to the cold water like I did.  Maybe you could try swabbing a bit of vaseline on a Q-tip and coating your nostrils a bit.  It sounds gross but may work.

Thanks I'll try just about anything these days.  I took off 3 days in a row- not like me- especially while the waves are fireing- but needed a break to breathe again.  Will try your suggestion!
