If you haven't bought it yet I recommend picking up a used board or a new BIC surfboard from a local shop...they have good flotation and can a beating and best of all easy to stand up on. Best and most affordable beginner board I've seen.

Search on Craigslist.org for a used board. Plenty of used boards on there.
