Surfing Japan/NZ/OZ

Hi.

I am thinking about going to teach english in Japan and while I'm in Japan I would like to keep my surfing up.  If anyone has any information on surfing in Japan that would really help.  I am not looking for the biggest spot but a place with a bit of variety, somewhat consistent, reasonably clean and easily accessible.  I looks as though most of the schools begin the work day at noon so if I could surf before work that would be perfect.  Any help would be good.  My plan is to save up as much cash as I can teaching in Japan and then head to Teachers College for a year at either Griffiths University in Queensland or University of Auckland.  I know there will be a ton of surf at Griffiths if anyone knows about surfing near Auchland that would help too.
