Female surfer traveling solo in Ghana« on: November 29 2005 13:11:00 »
I am a female sufer (of intermediate skill) planning to travel to Ghana from Dec - Jan 2005. I am 27 and will be traveling alone. Is Ghana concidered a "safe" country for young, solo female travelers? Are there any areas I should go to or aviod? Where is the best place to stay?
I'd appreciate any info!

Hey, just wanted to add that if any of you out there are going to be in Ghana during that time, then shoot me an email and maybe we could meet up for some surf sessions.

I'm in Ghana from Dec 11 to Jan 1. 10 years ago travelling was and - as far as I heared - it is still save, also for a women, solo.
Accra is dull and the beaches are crowded. Cape Coast and Elmina are pretty towns, I don't know nothing about the surfing conditions over there. I'll be at the beaches west of Sekondi Takoradi (Dixcove, Busua, Butre). It might be fun to go out surfing once or twice - if you promise not to laugh, I am low to no skill. I'll leave my whereabouts at the Alaska Beach resort in Busua, phone there is 0244/268599.
Have a save and nice trip!

Hi Bryn, hi Peter,
surfing in Ghana in March is supposed to be perfect, as far as I heared. Localism doesn't exist over there - even at Labadi Beach, Accra I was the only surfer on January 1st.
All I can say about surfing in Ghana you will find in my description of Busua Beach in the section Ghana - surfspots.
Take care and have fun.
