looking for surf spots around Accra« on: July 08 2008 17:07:00 »
I am going to be in Accra from the 1st of August to the 14th of September. Can anyone tell me how far away the beach and where I can find a nice surf spot. I was thinking to take my board but dunno if it is wroth it!
I cant imagine that one can rent surfboards there right?

I was only in Accra for a short time, but I went to a tourist-beach there called Labadi Beach and they have a board to rent. Its about 7 ft funboard shape and made out of plastic. It also is extremely warped, so I would recommend that if you can, bring your own board or maybe one to leave behind with the local surfers when you go. In April there were consistantly knee high waves, sometimes waist high, but pretty choppy overall. Have fun.

I've been in Ghana off and on for about 3 years. I'm currently here now.
Generally speaking the wave height is mostly small most of the year. There are some swells on occasion, but that usually leads to lots of chop.
There are many beaches to check out on the coast of Ghana, but I'd save the excess bagage fee and bring a pair of fins and body surf. Most sets are closeouts. I have my boogie board but rarely use it as if the waves are up, it takes to much energy to get into position. Also, the currents are pretty bad too.
Hope I didn't spoil it for you.
