Yes, the surf is intense due to the type of wave, its a short ride but it pumps you up. due to the snady botom waves brake fast and hard, this can also varry with tides and with the wind.

i was in pte san jose in 1991 and 1992 alwas surfed san jose i got some smoking hott waves from five footers to double overhead it was the best surf by far no crowds a few locals but were very cool and ripping it up to black sand beachs hot water and fine babes i miss surfing it

yes there are plenty, I was there about a year ago and it was really good.
