Surf close to Melbourne for beginner

Hey guys!
i just arrived in Melbourne! I will spend the next 4 months here and I would like to surf as many time as I can. I got just 2 questions !

1- I have never surfed before, so where sould I begin and sould I take class?
2 - Does anyone know a good surfing school?

Seems to me the best place for beginer is east of the Port Phillip Bay. Perhaps near point Leo.
