This won't be too much help, but I found that bringing my board around the entire island on my, ostensibly, snorkel trips, allowed me to find plenty of solitary spots with nice waves. Another way is to watch where there are obvious "surfer" vehicles pulled to the side of the road. But this way you might run into locals not at all keen on haoles. Good luck.
