where to surf on oahu this winter for intermediate surfer?

« on: July 16 2006 17:07:00 »

i'm planning on spending the winter on Oahu and all i want to do is surf everyday. i'm trying to figure out where to live based on where i can surf. north shore would kick my booty and waikiki sounds like it would be too small. any suggestions on beaches that would be good for an intermediate level surfer? any suggestions on good places to live would be great too.

Hit the north shore, just be aware of your skill level and don't get in over your head.  Not every day is massive, some swells get huge, but you certainly can find waves you can handle.  Laniakea is easy, Backyards is nice, but shallow inside.  No problem, brah.  My favorite beginner's break?....Sunset Beach.  :)~ (joke, brah)

Just look for the spots with the groms.  Some of them are quite good surfers, but not many of them go to the Heavy spots.  Any intermediate surfer could have fun surfing with the groms.

i lived on oahu for a year and wnerever you decide to live on the island, you can drive anywhere els on the island in like 30 to 40 minutes, but i suggest makaha, barbers point, the south shore will have good waves in the summer, but if you are there in the winter on the north shore, be careful and surf inside reefs if you are not comfortable with the mackers in the outside.
