Surfing in Kauai end of September

« on: January 18 2007 16:01:00 »

I'm headed to Kauai last week in September and over to the big island the week after that.  Any tips for someone just barely learning to surf?  I'm staying in Princevile, does anywhere North get any swell in September?  I'm not looking for anything too big.  4-5 ft would be plenty.  Thanks!

Hanalei Bay, just a short drive from Princeville.  If you don't mind a long paddle (at least long for my fat ass) then go to the pier.  Otherwise, go just a hair further down the road to the next parking area.  The surf is smaller but much closer.  I was there in the middle of last November and had a greart time.  Just remember, if you love Kauai, send your friends to Maui 'cause it gets damn crowded at rush hour.
