Oahu April 27th to May 4th« on: April 22 2007 09:04:00 »
I'm in Australia for my bro's wedding. Decided last minute to stop in hawaii for a week of surfing on the way back. Snowboard season is over anyways...Anyone going to be there that wants to meet up for some waves? I'll be cruising around and hopefully sleeping in my rental car.
I'm also looking for some advice...will I get robbed and killed if i try to sleep near the beach in my rental car. Should I just spring for a room somewhere?
I live in Whistler, probably the biggest ski town in the world so I know all about hating tourists. Please don't hate me!

Do not sleep in your car, very bad idea. The police enforce rules against it and you are very open to getting mugged by some methhead. Cheap places are available, just look online.

there are no worries if you are sleeping in your car on the other islands....but I would just bring a tent..there are tons of places to camp for free...or beaches.
there used to be a rule that if you had a fishing pole up you could camp at most beaches. but Oahu does not really accept that anymore..and other islands are starting to crack down on beach campers..
I know of a few travlers that have lived in there car for months our here..especially on the mellow parts of the island.
hopefully that helps.

Thanks for the tips. Seems like everyone I talk to is saying that sleeping in the car is a bad idea. Guess I'll just have to spring for the room. I've found a few online. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.
