Your chances for summer surf could be better on either Oahu, Kauai or the Big Island. Summer swells to Hawaii generally come from a southwesterly direction which makes it a problem on Maui. Two islands, Kahoolawe and Lanai, sit right in the most favorable swell window. So while Oahu and Kauai could be in the 4'-6' ft. range it can be less than a couple of ft. on Maui. However, if Maui gets a straight south, which isn't too often, it can get really good as a number of spots come into play with a few secret spots past Makena (south-southeast).
