Good surf spots for begginers on Molokai and Lanai?
« on: February 11 2008 13:02:00 »I will be traveling to Hawaii with my family next month and we will be staying on the islands of Molokai and Lanai.
I know those are not the more popular islands, but we would still like to surf while we are there.
We have surfed a couple of times but are still definitely beginners.
Can anyone suggest any good surf spots?

The town has no stores or restaurants and shuts down before dark. There is no activities. Our whole family was very dissapointed and wish we had someone to tell us not to go so im telling you in hopes of saving your family from a disasterous trip. Do yourselves a favor and go to either maui or hawaii.

Since you are beginner surfers, you probably would want to hire a surf guide. They can set you up with all you need and take you to the best beaches for your ability and where there is surf. Not a cheap date, but likely the best way to go. You will find more surfing on Lanai than on Molokai. Have fun, ALOHA!

Trade winds are offshore and the bottom is reefy, boogie boarders make up the majority and always seem to be more open to friendly to outsiders.
Activities, restaurants & entertainment on the island are extremely limited so bring your own. My wife's a veggie nearly starved.

I wouldn't recommend surfing there although you could. The northern half of the island are mostly cliffs and coves. Not much surf unless you make it down to the beaches. Lanai is not known for its surfspots.

Brah, get some education and get a real job, like a lawyer. then you can SUE the tourists who come over and steal your heritage; not just void your bladder, but fill your wallet at the same time. But let me clue you in to a fact, it takes work and you might have to skip some surf sessions in order to do it. But, eh! plenty choke sess for you aftah graduate. Think man, you will be DA KINE lawyer, fighting for the Republic of Hawaii, make yo auntie proud!
