Describe your worst wipeout on a wave.« on: December 25 2005 11:12:00 »
Mine was last year in Capecod Mass at a beach called Lighthouse beach. A big atlantic storm many miles off the coast produced some of the biggest waves i have seen on the Cape. I dropped in on a 6 foot wave and lost my footing. Got crushed by the wave and hit my chest hard against the bottom. Lost my wind and couldn't reach surface. When i finally did there was another wave on top of me. I was exhausted and barely could walk on the sand, not to mention i was bruised and scared for the first time.

Took off on a double overhead wave, too late, snapped my 2 week old board right in the middle.
I came out fine though.

Good to know u guys got lucky!!! ...Well most dont...India get's some of the scariest storm & cyclone generated swells that claim hundreds of lives each year so think about it twice before treadin' in the water, when it's like that...some water nasties pay a visit too!!!
Take it easy guys stay alive & catch more waves.

Surfing Swamis here in San Diego on Thanksgiving Day one year during a huge north swell I got caught inside on a 20ft face. I tried to duck dive and punch through from way deep and ended up getting pulled over the falls backwards. If you have ever seen "Riding Giants", that's what Flea describes as the worst kind of beating. Now, this was a 20ft face, not a 40ft face, but it was still a hell of a beating. I got rolled around inside the foamball for what seemed like forever but was probably 20-30 seconds, then finally managed to get to the surface just in time to take another one on the head. Needless to say, that was the end of my session for the day.

took off on a 10footer at a secret spot in West Oz and pulled in for the close out. tide was super low so my fins hit the reef, snapped off and sent me flying. then i got rag dolled across the reef and snapped my leg rope and pushed into a whole for about 25 seconds(we got it on film) i ripped my wetsuit almost in half. i went back to the boat put some new fins in, put some boardies on and paddled out again and got some good ones. the only reason i went out again is cause i new that was the hardest i was ever gonna be smashed, now i look at life totally differently, i wonder what would have happened if my leggie didnt snap?

Pulled over the falls backwards....I HATE that feeling! You think you are going to make it over the wave, and then there is a moment when you feel the water pull you backwards, and you just know you are going over the falls. But that's not the worst of it, noooo. you still have to hit bottom and suffer the thrashing from the whitewater. Man, that is alltime bad. Now try getting dragged across a coral head while all of this is happening, you may as well write off your day. Bummer, eh?
