i am in india at the moment. surfed in goa in april, in the south, around palolem. went to three or four beaches but there were no boards for hire - just a few boogies. i brought my own boards - no hassle really, you can get em into all of the taxis or on the roof of a tuk tuk. depending on your level, i would recommend it. nothing for the expert here surfwise, but really nice mellow and surprisingly consistent waves 1-4 foot. very slow breaking and no power, but clean as you like before 11am ish. perfect for learning as totally non threatening! best to scout around as many of the beaches seem to only have close out beach crunchers. most work better on a low to mid tide, and close out after that.
email me if you want more info.if you're there in feb or march 05 i will be back in goa and you can hire my board!

I'll be in Goa from 27th march to 10th april 2005. I don't know if I will be able to come with my own board as I'll be coming from Indonesia, and the board transportation is very expensive. If you are there at that time send me an e-mail, we can meet there and surf together.

just read your reply! - - if you are used to powerful oz waves, you will almost certainly be disappointed with goan waves. when i was there they lacked decent shape. i heard that xaviers (check out the spot write up on this site) sometimes barrels, but i ain't surfed it yet - plan to check it out next year.
in conclusion, one will almost certainly not get sick in goa, unless one has a bad fish curry.
i was in sri lanka two months back, at arugam bay. there was a big israeli contingent, but the vibe in the water was good, if you got away from the main a-bay point. i even got shouted onto some waves by israeli lads on the one day it got reasonably big (5 foot plus.) how often does that happen??
hope this is useful - take it easy

read your post and am stoked - we're going to agonda beach for a wedding on late feb, so will definitely take the mal.
living in dubai at the moment and believe it or not, heaps of waves here in the last few months - mainly beach breaks with wind swell from northerly shamal winds blowing from across the gulf, but we've had it 4-5 foot, glassy and off-shore in the morning. it can wall up nicely too on the banks closer in and throw over a bit.
check 'surfersofdubai.com' if you're going to be in town... no surf in summer (from apr to oct) but oman is the promised land...
