monsoon season surfing in Goa« on: August 24 2009 06:08:00 »
does anyone know what the deal is with beaches being closed in september?
Can we still surf if the hotel managers tell us the beaches are closed?
I'm heading to Goa in late september and I have a couple boards...and really looking forward to get them wet!
Any help is very appreciated

:-) I dont know what they mean by "beaches are closed". At worst, on few of the well known beaches, you may find some lifeguard/police asking you to get out of the waters. That too is very rare and a very recent development.
Apart from that nobody "closes" the beach... its not possible. But everyone would advice you not to go out since its damn pretty rough in the monsoons. I would advice you to be careful.

I have heard that some of the 'beach shacks' in Goa have some boards left over by surfers that they rent out for local use.
I dont know which beaches though. If you find some do let us know on the forum.
If you can, I would advice you to get a (cheap)board wherver you are coming from and sell it when you leave. Its difficult to get a board here.
