Bali rabies« on: June 10 2012 13:06:00 »
Me and a mate are going to be in Bali next month. We have had hep A and B jabs and typhoid jabs. Regards to rabis, i know its present in Bali butttttt was wondering if any of you guys didnt bother getting vaccinated for it (curious as we are gunna have to wait whole month for it 1. be available and 2. for the course of jabs to be taken). I know it will sound daft not to have them, but im not sure on how bad it is out there!?

U dont need rabies shots in Bali, rabies shots dont necessarily protect u from rabies they just buy u extra time. I have a pet cat in Bali n have been bitten by him a few times so even though i've had the vaccination I still need to go to the hospital n get more shots when it happens. So if I were u I wouldnt bother unless ur planning on heading to another island where medical facilities arent close by...

This reminds me of a story a guy i met, tall solid guy had those leopard patterned boardies a while back and said he was on the beach at kuta thousands of people on the beach and one massive bad ass looking dog growls at him and starts chasing him and no one else. he went for a swim to get away, waited for the dog to go home, it did.
As soon as he got out of the water he spoted it about 500 metres away avoiding people to chase him up the beach, went back in the water when a local saw what was going on and took it home. Its cause he had leopard patterned boardies.

Never even knew you could get shots for rabies, but a friend who lives in Bali, apparently died of rabies there.
First trip to Indo, i got every vaccination i could think of and was paranoid of malaria, but these days I've never think I've either and spend months in offshore sumatra, maybe i should get shot again before next trip...
