How dangerous are the reef breaks in Bali?« on: April 19 2007 01:04:00 »
I'm a 22yo surfer from Northern California and will be staying in Bali from mid May to early June.
I consider myself an intermediate surfer that paddles out about twice a month, but I'm worried about the reef breaks in Bali. I've surfed in overhead swell but never had to worry much about an unforgiving sea floor.
How shallow and dangerous are they? Will booties and a rash guard provide me with enough protection?
I know there are a handful of beach breaks and mellow spots but are there enough to keep me busy for a month?
I imagine starting out at the mellow breaks and gradually working my way up after gaining some confidence. I'm also considering joining the rapture surf camp in Bali to get a nice sampling of Bali's breaks from a true local.
Any advice or input would be much appreciated.

just wear booties and you should be fine
