Californian looking for fellow American surfers in Bali« on: April 21 2007 03:04:00 »
I'm a 22yo male surfer from the san francisco bay area, and I was wondering if any other soul surfers from the states are going to be in Bali May through June. I'm going to be flying solo and wouldn't mind meeting some folks i could relate with. I take it that the majority of caucasians in Bali are either kiwis or ozzies?

Try not to limit yourself to hanging out only with Americans mate. There's a whole world out there you know.

Good call AB I hate to start the whole america Vs Oz thing again, but americans really need to get over this idea you are the centre of the universe and learn to accept and even embrace other cultures. If we were all like americans imagine what a mees the world woud be eg global warming, iraq etc. and try to listen to someone whos a tad darker than "caucasian" Thats LISTEN not talk

thats farkin funny. who gives a flying rats arsehole where the "caucasian gringo mazungo farang turo westy dumbarse huevon" is from. hook up with some crew from there or whereever. if you want to go travellling to hang with people from home then your wasting your coin. the best part of travelling is hanging with the local crew and sampling the local delicalessys.(local seafood dishes) lots of good local meat,...ie. landlocked furry airstrips or exotic shellfish with a furry sea type plankton style clam beard. hairy taco , gutted rabbit, self saucing fur burger, double doore garage, furry canoe, axe wound, jis bucket, carnt, pink meat, pussy, conchita, arepa, chucha, toto, etc

You all make valid points, I've studied abroad in Sydney and love OZ, but just wanted to gauge how many Americans actually end up going on holiday in Bali. I'm Filipino-American, so most people will mistake me for Balinese anyway.

ever notice how aggro some Aussie surfers get against Yanks, call them names like 'seppo', but Yanks don't even have such a name for Aussies? where does that big chip on the shoulders come from?
Every country has its a-holes, I think most Americans don't go to the point of letting whatever they watch on TV cause them to lump everyone from one country or another together.
I think the response from the original poster is spot on - there's advice you could use from someone else coming from the same location or from having the same passport, etc.
judge not and ye shall not be judged - the waves are for all of us brothers
