Surfing Bali solo in October« on: July 23 2007 10:07:00 »
i'm a 23 year old english girl, planning a trip to Bali in October...just got back from 10 days surfing in portugal but now gotta write a thesis for 2 months [yawn] so thinking i'm going to be pretty out of practice by the time i go anywhere!
i want honest answers - i'd call myself a novice, and i ride my own board [6'10" buoyant mini-mal shape, custom] but i want to make some REAL progress when i go away, will Bali be too heavy, or are there breaks i'll be able to ease into?
my alternative is morocco but i realllly wanna surf without a wetsuit!
Any tips on surf schools, places to stay etc? And where to meet like-minded people...anyone who's also planning a trip to Bali in october get in touch!

Im a 25yo from NZ and il be in Bali for the month of Oct after a month in Thailand. From my lil bit of research it seems that there are good beginner waves to be had in kuta, before taking on the heavier reefs elsewhere. Im a beg-inter but have never surfed reefs, so i was planning on having a couple of days in Kuta to ease into it, and then maybe head to dreamlands coz it’s a mix of beach-reef break, or to Medewi where its a rivermouth pointbreak and less crowded. Im taking over my 6’6. Check out the different breaks on this website and see what u think. I havent looked up any surf schools so cant help u on that. And theres tonnes of places to stay to suit any budget. Anywho, keep in touch and we could suss something out for over there! cheers

Hey ladies, I`m also gonna be in Bali/Lombok in October after 2 years of living in Japan. Was in Bali last year for the first time and had a wicked time of mostly surf and wee bit of party. Started out at Bingin, freaked out, then met up with some mates and headed up to Medewi which was super mellow (and rocky) and good to get some surf-fitness back. Then went back down to Bingin/Dreamlands with more confidence. Reckon I`m beg-int too, not after anything too big. And Kuta`s fine for beginners too.
There are a few schools around and one catering for chicks, maybe google though cos I forget the name of it or try going through the Surfer Girl (shop in Bali) website.
JW, I`m also a kiwi lass, on my way home, and it`d be rad to meet up if your keen. I may have a Japanese chick with me as well otherwise may be flying solo.
