Intermediate Surf Spots - July

« on: April 21 2008 14:04:00 »

I am planning a trip to Bali at the end of June for a month. Planning on spending at least a week or two in/around Kuta. As I am an out of practice intermediate surfer and it is my first trip to Indo I am just wondering about wave size this time of year? All the websites seem to be talking about shallow reef and grinding double over head barrels!! Ideally i am looking for nice shoulder or head high waves, know of any spots either in Bali or other islands??

By the way, I am from Ireland and travelling alone, if anyone is up for a surf or a beer, drop me a line.

You can surf the beach break at Kuta which is nice, Dreamland isn't too hardcore when the swell is medium, so is the pointbreak at Medewi

The size is Ok, there are so many spots around Canggu where u can surf!I was there last summer and my level is intermediate as well, no problem. The best think is to join a Surfcamp to know the way to the spots and then rent a motorbike. I was in Kima Surfcamp in Seminyak, very nice and the cheaperst one, they have 2 surf sessions per day, all the levels...I'll be here as well in July hope to meet you!

I am going to Indo in a month (15th Aug - 10th Sept) travelling by myself, and I´d like to visit the MEntawais, for a week or two. Strictly land-based (I can´t stand sleeping on water), I have an intermediate level (16 years surfing but not fit at the moment), goofy footer, Spanish-English bilingual.

Ive done my homework asking around and online research, I could not find budget accommodation in Mentawai until I found this:

has anyone tried it?

I would need 3 more mates to join me and then it would be really cheap: 660$ per person for 9-10 nights, I am flexible with dates, If anyone is interested pls email me ASAP:

Unless your German speaking, avoid Kima Surf Seminyak or Canggu. It's 99% German, Austrian and Swiss people. They are not good as far as value for money either. Don't know about the chill house, although I think they are also very German based.
