Is anyone surfin' Bali March 2009?« on: January 18 2009 07:01:00 »
Hey, I will be in Bali in March and am looking to hook up with other people as I am travelling alone. Not been to Bali before and have read mixed reviews about safety for women in Bali - some saying that there isn't a problem and others saying that there is. Have done quite a bit of travelling alone, so am independent and occasionally like having my own space. However, I had trouble travelling alone in Thailand - even though it is supposed to be quite safe - and don't want to have to go through same thing again especially as I would like to surf in Bali for about a month. Get in touch if you will be around in Bali March time, or if you have any advice, tips, suggestions. Big thanks.

Ive been to Bali a few times before, and i would say that it is unlikely that you will encounter problems there. It is a Hindu culture not muslim like the rest of indonesia so there is a more relaxed attitude toward western values. Of course there are the usual touts and scammers like all poor countrys.Outside of Bali it is a little different. I will be in Bali march time if you need any advice you can email me.

you'll love it! I'm an old hat at travelling this region. Don't believe the hype! As mentioned by another respondant the island is mainly hindu, and they are very tourist friendly! Travelling in March, keep this in mind; The East coast will be the best place to stay as the prevailing winds will still be mainly from the west, so the beaches/ surf is better on that side. Nyepi days falls within this month on the 21st/22nd, and nothing happens on this day! So don't plan to arrive or do anything travelwise. If you want to meet like minded surfers, contact Slim from Baliwaves.com and tell him Milo sent you.... It is the island of the gods!

Hi - I will be there from 13th-27th of March, part of the time with my mom and part with my boyfriend. I will likely be away from the coast with my mom, but my bf and I plan to surf and would love to meet up. We are similar level and be seeking some of the mellower waves. Feel free to contact me to meet up for sure!
