Early May surf trip to Bali, looking for ideas/suggestions« on: March 16 2009 11:03:00 »
I'm a 29 year old Orange County (USA) surfer headed to Bali for the first two weeks of May by myself (can't find anyone to join me in tough economic times). Was looking for a little advice on where to surf, and see if there are any good surf camps at reasonable prices. Would like to maybe go to neighboring islands for 4 or 5 days to surf some other breaks too. I'm an intermediate level surfer. Also, if there are any other surfers traveling to Bali at that time who would like to meet up that would be cool too. Thanks.

i'm from oc also. 2 weeks isn't long. i think that's a good time to go. good chance of swell and light winds. my best advice would be to fly straight out of bali and go to kuta lombok or sumbawa. definantly wouldn't recomend any camps other than gland and that's not really suitable for an intermediate surfer. curious about what airline, fare, and how u booked. heard there's some good fares out there now. friend booked round trip australia for $730 direct through quantis. have a good trip and have fun.

if you're an intermediate surfer, stay away from kuta beach breaks. you'll be bored of the waves there. kuta reef should be good though. can head up to medewi. it's a nice long left. absolutely nothing to do up there though other than surf. canggu is closeby to kuta and is good fun. if you want to head over to west java, cimaja is a nice right

If you're looking for a good hotel, try the Dayu Beach Inn in Tuban (South Kuta). For about $20 US you get a clean, comfortable room with AC, TV and free breakfast. it's a five min walk to the beach and close to all the nightlife.
