Indo-2 months-July/August How should I play it?

« on: April 18 2009 03:04:00 »

Hi,

Off to Indonesia for two months in the high season.  went last year to bali for two weeks and hung out on the peninsula, got some good waves, but local knowledge let me down as I was alone, so could have done better in wave department.

going back alone again, but have time to have a good look around.  camps might be out of my budget, so losmen and independent travel will be the way.

any of you have an idea of where I should go? have surfed since I was young, done big trips to fiji, sri lanka, europe etc. well travelled, not a beginner surfer, just a indo newbie and on my own.

cheers guys.

The Best option for surf Mentawai world class break is by the charter boat. You dont have to worry about finding waves, surf guide will get you the perfect uncrowded waves, sleeping in the comfortable room, chef will never make you hungry, making a new friends, catching a fish by yourself and sashimi it, got massage in the boat after tired surfing, cant say more mate, u have to feel it by yourself. But you also can sleep at cheap local losmen and you will need a speedboat to get to the waves if you wanna change spots which is you have to bargain with the local, find your own food and sometimes the food just not suits you, finding your own CROWDED waves and maybe not find a perfect one as you not know the area.
Maybe its only 2 weeks trip with boat but its a lot worthed than 2 month trip by your self......

Why dont you try some cool and uncrowded waves in bengkulu, sumatra. Cheap for accomodation and friendly people, except not many of them speaks English.Feel free to drop me aline for more info. Cheers.

I didn't think there were any waves in Indo in July/August? I going traveling for 2 months over July/August, and I want somewhere uncrowded where I can score perfect waves. I checked out Indo and discovered that's the worst time of year to go. Is that not right? I'd love to go to Indo, but only wanna go if I can have decent surf?

Indo's peak season is July and August, but it's pretty pumping year round

By 'peak season' you mean its the biggest, most consistent time of the year to visit, right? How big will it get. I'm looking for a nice consistent 3-5 foot wave. Preferably warm waters and as quiet as possible?

hahaha, yeah mate July-August is the best time to go.
I would go Lombok or Sumbawa if you want uncrowded. Otherwise enjoy getting blocked by the locals at the good spots in Bali,,,haha
