from beach to reef in indo- going intermediate« on: August 12 2009 03:08:00 »
Ive been surfing for 5 years on the comfortable sands of the Gower...... never have i ventured onto super sharp and shallow reefs. Can anyone suggest some good deep and not so sharp reefs, with easy take offs and predictable sections in Indonesia.... anywhere will do, Lombok, Java, Bali.
Hope ya can help :/

mate, you welsh? i'm also in swansea and have lived here all my life so know the gower it's a shame i can't give you my phone number as wouldn't mind telling you a few places. all i'd say is this, indo reef is no joke, so take it easy. waves can be harsh and punishing. that doesn't mean there isn't anywhere to surf though, though it does get crowded. go to kuta beach and find you feet, though try and stay away during june-september as it's stuffed full of ozzies. after that ask around, see if you can pick up a guide who'll take you to some quite places in java. Lombock also good but main spots can get crowded with japs. Then keep going west mate, some very hard core surf if you search.

half welsh :) cheers dude, surfed Kuta today your right rammed with ozzies. Think well be spending a week checking out mainly what bali has to offer as we only have hire boards. had a problem in Pacitan, Java ended up spending 2 days finding some shitty old boards.

Get onto Dreamweaver Surf Charters they do some wicked trips to Sth Lombok away from the crowds and some great waves for intermediate surfers, some of the reefs are sharp but most are pretty easy.
They run a really good trip too. Heaps of crew I know have been on their boat and all rave about it.
