Ive booked a ticket to Bali from Canada and Im doing the New york-Taipei-Dempasar road with Air China. I heard Air China and China Airlines are 2 very different airlines and that one of them is really better. Id like to know which one.

Check your routing. If going to Bali on a Air China ticket you will have to go through Bejing and another airline at some point-they don't go to Bali. China Airlines does go the New york-Taipei-Dempasar . Air China is a mainland China airline and China Airlines is Taipie based

China Airlines is the way to go. Leave out of LAX one stop in Taiwan and then right to Densapar. Last November I bought my ticket the NIGHT before I left and the price was the same as if I bought it weeks in advance.
Go China Airlines. Good service, clean planes, and nice FAs.

I'm in the second year of trying to recover a £600 double charge from Air China, they repeatedly tries to blame other companies (e.g. Expedia) but the credit card company has confirmed they were the agent that took both charges. Treat with care.

Same for me, I had a very interesting travel with Air China with a TV only in Chinese and my luggage was lost. It took them 4 days to deliver it to me and I had to pick it up at the airport. Talking about compensation, here again nobody speaks english when it's about getting money.
Yes, be cautious.and I would not try to take my board in the plane.

Just to repeat, Air China and China Airlines are different airlines. China Airlines is great, Air China I don't know.
Note: When using Orbitz, Expedia ect.. I have always found that contacting the airline directly(online), I have always been able to get as good a deal as on the travel websites(sometimes a bit better) and your recourse in case of problems is a lot better. Just my experience.
