Wouldn't go if there wasn't a solid swell predicted, swell direction and swell period, and tidal heights/differences can also be big factors.
Any time between March-October your in with a chance of a solid swell, but deffienetly not swell year round, more often flat or tiny.

Gili Meno and Trawangan both have some swell. Nothing too great though. Trawangan is kinda better. Both have a really shallow coral reef though. I heard some pretty gruesome stories while I was there.
I think it'd be best if you kept the surfing in Bali, and then maybe chill for a couple of days on the Gilis.

BTW. When I say solid swell is needed....I mean solid swell is needed to get waves of waist high or bigger.
So other places like ullus ect will be big reefs in kuta breaking etc.

Yup. 3 days is awesome if you just wanna chill. I strongly recommend Gili Meno. Try staying either at the Nautilus or the Gazebo. The rest of the places there are kinda sketchy.
Trawangan is more of a party island, and Air is kinda neutral. I think Gili Meno's the nicest of the lot. Email me if you need any more tips.
