Sumatra Surf Trip for Beginners« on: May 03 2010 04:05:00 »
Looking for a surf/ lazy holiday and came across Sumatra. Looks gorgeous, nice beaches, climate, etc. Couple of Q's.
1. Is it a good place for beginners? I can surf but want easy waves to progress.
2. Can i hire equipment out there?
3. Any recommended places whilst out there?
Im aiming to go early June 2010.
Thanks for any help!

You can try Pantai Air Manis in Padang Sumatra. It offers long rides, both right and left, holds up to about 5ft on a beach break. Am a beginner myself and had an awesome time a couple of weeks back.
It's about half an hour's drive from town, so you may want to hook up with an operator who does surf trips. I went with Malaysian based company-blueforest surf. You can check them out at www.blueforestsurf.com
Yes, you can hire equipment there.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies fellas. It looks like things have changed slightly and I'm gonna aim to hit Bali instead around June/ July. Only thing in bali i'm apprehensive about is the, what's sounds like, jammed line ups!! But there seems to be more facilities and equipment hire oppurtinities in Bali.
Thx again folks
