Just moved to singapore and want to get away surfing. Bali flights are pretty expensive, and want to go somewhere different. only got the weekends to play with at the moment...any bright ideas?

All sumatra options Simeulue, Nias, Mentawai's, etc, would be a bit hard due to time limits, all via medan and padang, Aceh could be an option, if theres flights from Singapore or Batam? idea

Cimaja in west java would be the best option, Jakarta then few hours by car plenty of flights best chance for cheap flights..

Dont forget you can go via batam if needed for example i dont think there is any plights from singapore to padang anymore but there was last time i looked from Batam to Padang (you could surf crappy beachies on big swell)
