summer surf

I haven't been to Ireland since 78, when I tripped into Inch reef and had my mind blown.  I wasn't expecting to see waves like that.  Now I'm lucky to be going back for a week at the end of July to work with the Irish coastal program on their on-line coastal atlas.  Unfortunately, we'll be working in Cork.  Is there any hope of finding any waves along the south coast that time of year?  Is it worth bring my gear?  I'm from Oregon so the conditions should feel like home.
