looking for fun little trips on WE next year« on: January 17 2006 10:01:00 »
I live in brittany (France) near "La Torche" (the most popular surf spot in "finistère"). I still bodyboarding for 8 years, and i'll be a future (next school year) student in letterkenny in north ireland in Donegal. I know some popular spot like bundoran or easky but not more. I see there is a huge north coast wich can propably receive all the powerfull swell in winter. Is anyone can help me to find some good waves (mainly reef..) ? I will study there for one year, so i will be not a potential new surfer on spots. I just want to meet poeple to have fun small trips on weekends ands catch somes goods sessions. Thanks a lot.
please send me a mail if possible.

There are endless options on the north west coast - you could try Portballintra in Antrim - popular with body boarders. Also PMPA in Bundoran. 5 fingers in Malin head - Donegal has some rarely ridden breaks if you fancy isolation. The rest you will sus when you get here. Whiterock in Portrush is also worth checking out.

You should go and talk to Pete Craig from the Bundoran Surf Company in Bundoran. Pete is working on an international surf project with myself in North Devon and the Ecole de Surf de Bretagne. We are all off to La Torche in a couple of weeks and know a few surfers in the area.
Also contact Marty at the Gartan Outdoor Centre near Letterkenny. He is coordinating the project in Ireland and will help you out.

Athlone is in the middle of the country about 120km from the ocean. However Strandhill in Sligo is good
