Beginner surfer needs help with choosing a spot in Italy mainland« on: August 02 2014 14:08:00 »
Dears, I'm visiting Italy in first half of September for 2 weeks. I've spend few weeks reading about spots in Italy mainland for beginners (beach-break only) and I still don't know where to go. Please advise, I'm running out of time to book anything.
Requirements: sandy bottom, waves good for funboard, with possibility to stay away from the crowd and practice in piece would be the best. Optionally if there would be any surf-school nearby so I could set up for private lessons - that would be a dream come true destination.
Please help, i would really appreciate it.

First I suggest you go to Italys west coast as it is more consistent and you'll get better chance of catching waves. Sardinia would be even better. Otherwise, on the west coast you will have sand mostly all the way from La Spezia to Livorno. So all these beaches would suit you, the only problem is that they are quite sensitive to wind. The only protected spot that I know is Levanto, it more an intermediate spot, but the peak on the far left is great for beginners.
