I live in South Carolina , am 57 years old and a good surfer I am going to be in Italy mid Sept. at relatives home near Luca. Been reading up on surfing in Italy, but would appreciate any tips or input you could possibly give me on where I can catch some decent surf and rent a longboard. This is my first trip to Italy and I will only be there a week.

August isn't the right month to surf in italy. And rome, and all the Lazio coast, isn't the best place.
Anyway, i'm from rome and since one week i'm surfing nearly every day.
Near rome, you could go to Anzio, Nettuno ,Santa Marinella, Ostia.
I hope and think that september will be a good month for surfing, usually it is.
If you can travel a bit, go to sardinia...Alghero or Oristano coast are wonderful in september.
