Yes, there should be really nice waves in January. Where are you planning to stay? All of JA's surf is on the eastern side, north and south coast. Great waves right near the Kingston airport. Good waves in Portland parish in the north east. If you're staying in the main resort areas of Montego Bay or Negril, you've got alot of traveling to do if you want waves. If you're staying in Ocho Rios, about a 2 hour drive to a number of spots. If you're going just to surf, stay near the waves. I can make some suggestions. peace.

I am thinking of going first two weeks of January.  Where would you recommend going for waves and uncrowded beaches for relaxing?

you want to go to bull bay.  stay at jamnesia cool folk and good breaks nearby.  close to morant  for some nice breaks .  but look up billy mystic in bull bay and don't forget to leave your stick with the local groms they will be totally stoked.
