surfing around yokosuka« on: July 28 2006 01:07:00 »
hey me and a couple of buddies of mine just got stationed in yokosuka, and are looking for places to surf. i myself am trying to learn to surf, but my buddies already know how. if you know of anywhere that is a short train or boat ride from yokosuka, that has good or decent surf hit me up.

Know lots of places. You need to get to the other side of this peninsula though. A couple places on this side but their swell window is very small. Monday and Tuesday were pretty good. Got my eyes out for the possibilities for next week as well.

Take train from Yokosuka to Kamakura station, and transfer to local train and head to Kugenuma Beach area (also called Shonan). Mostly wind swell that doesn't last long, but gets pretty good after low pressure systems or Typhoon passes through. Check Kamakura reaf breaks on big day.

Great info, Yusuke. Thanks. Incidentally, how long is the commute to Shonan from Yokosuka?
