surf near sasebo? Surfing Japan

Hey everybody! I may be moving to sasebo with my navy beau and I am wondering if there is any decent surf nearby? also, is it hard to get to? are people pretty friendly out in the water? I have surfed malibu for twelve years so I'm a tough cookie but am wondering if japanese hopsitality transfers in the water?thanks!!

Unfortunately, I don't know yet.  I'm sitting her in Sasebo looking it up, and I came upon your question.  Please let me know if you've heard from anyone or if you know where to go.  I've got a week left over here, and need some surfing.

Ran by your ad while search the net for some surfing. I also live in Japan. There are several spots to surf in the area, most are 1.5 hours away but there are some great spots, Tatagami Iwo, Karastu, Oeto, Kurosaki, and if you really are into some good waves Miyazaki during the summer time, but it is a 4 hour drive to get there. Hey there, i am going on deployment and will be going to sasebo, i was wondering if you would mind hooking up with us...? Let me know, of if you can give me directions on how to get to some of the spots.  And how are the waves and water temp there in the winter months...thanks bro. hope to hear back from you.
