Wana surf in Japan. How to get to the beach?

« on: August 13 2005 07:08:00 »

Hi,

I arrived in Japan two weeks ago and will stay for one year. I already read that there are really good surfspots in Japan and I would like to surf during my stay. Unfortunatelly I don' t know how to getto the beach.

I am living in Kusatsu(Shiga-ken) and I do not have a car. I think going to the beach might be a problem...
Any suggestions?

I also would like to meet some surfers here in Japan !!! looking forward to any answers :-)

Hang loose
Michael

Don't know how good Shiga ken is... my advice would be go to some local "gaijin" bars, ask around find some Japanese that will take u to the beach... (most are really into learning English so that shouldn't be a problem...)  or even better get yourself a cute girlfriend with a 4by4 and go to the beach with her.. ;)

Thanks for your reply!
I like the last part of your advice most :-)

Shiga-ken is near the Biwa lake(close to Kyoto) and very good for windsurfing. But this takes a lot of material and therefor a lot of money. Normal surfing would be easier...but to go to the ocean, it takes around three hours by car.

I will start looking for gaijin-bars ;-)

Regards
Michael
