I'm currently living in Hawaii and have been surfing going on 4 years now. I will be moving to Okinawa in the fall so I'm trying to get a headstart on some things to get i.e. wet suit, board and type that will be good for surfing Okinawa. Any help would be great- Aloha!

I'm researching the same thing, the information I have found so far is that buying a surfboard in Okinawa is expensive, it's probably better to bring one from home, most transatlantic airlines don't charge you for bringing one piece of sports equipment. Honestly Japan in general is really expensive, I lived in Tokyo for a while and went surfing in Chiba Prefecture, cost of renting a board is pretty standard there but again buying a board is expensive. Cost of a good short board( standard Al Merrick secondhand can go for €660, you'd get the same thing in Ireland for about €400ish, seriously steep imo). Be careful of sea creatures in Okinawa too dude, although you are from Hawaii so I'm sure you'll be grand. If you have any extra info it would be greatly appreciated.
