surf shops in Japan

« on: March 06 2011 09:03:00 »

Does anyone know about the availability of used/vintage boards in Japan?  Do the shops even carry these, or is it mostly private party?  I was thinking about buying a board when I get there in Oct and selling when I leave.  Any thoughts?

Yeah. Iwas there 2 years ago and there was a surf shop in Take a shit a area (can you believe the name Ha Ha).
They had some vintage boards at absolutely ridiculous prices and they were pretty lame boards too, like early thrusters not way cool seventies single fins or such.  Surfed in Kyushu which was a gas, totally crowded but still fun.  I remember the board shop there, called 'Sunshine' or similar had some older long boards.  The manager was a retired pro and a pretty cool guy, even lent me a board for free but the prices were astronomical even there, like 2.5 thousand dollars for a new longboard with no colour or anything special at all.  Good tip for da surf is check out Okinawa!!!
