Surfing the Maldives in August

Im heading over to the Maldives for the first time in August. I was wondering if it is worth taking a gun over there at that time of year. Also, do i bother taking a springy or will boardies be fine for the water temp. Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Croc
